Roads to Heaven and Hell

John Steinbeck's novel chronicles the effects of the Depression on poor farmers
in the central United States. The ravages of Dust Bowl weather and the Depression
force the Joad family along with Jim Casy, abandon their home in Oklahoma, and set
out on a journey to the Promised Land of California. Steinbeck describes the hardships
and prejudice the Joads encounter during their journey, and on their arrival in California.
Jim Casy is a biblical figure in the Grapes of Wrath, his actions follow closely with
that of Christs but there are many stumbling blocks along the way
